A Moment of Silence

a moment of silence I do not know the person who has passed away but I know what this memorial means.

It was a young African-American child, most likely a boy, gunned down, either deliberately or by accident, in the prime of his life.

There will be no marches, speeches, outrage, or celebrity sightings because young African-American children killing young African-American children is not evening news.  It is our way of life.

I’ve lost 2 male first cousins to gun violence and our family has no record of anyone ever being caught.  We’ve been consoled by other neighborhood folks that say the killers got what was coming to them.  But is “what goes around comes around” the new kind of justice for the lost lives of so many young African-American men?

Black lives matter even when they aren’t taken by the police.
