Mental Health Tip #5: Go Outside

go outsideSometimes when I feel really bad the only way to change my emotion is to leave the space I’m in.  If I feel horrible on a bus or train I’ve gotten off and walked around a bit.  If I feel horrible in the office I step outside.  One night in Boston I left my apartment at 4am to go to a 24 hour Walgreens to walk around because I was hallucinating in my apartment.

There’s something about fresh air that can change everything.  One deep breath of fresh air can mean the difference between hours of frustration or a sweet calm that can get me to tomorrow.

The weather is becoming nice enough to be outside again.  I always like to take advantage of the sunshine.
