So in the two years I’ve been living in Brownsville I’ve gone through several emotional phases in terms of how I feel about the neighborhood. Initially, I was excited about all of the tremendous change that everyone talked about in Brooklyn.
Right away I looked for all of the good things people talked about – new stores, gardens, diversity, safety.
But then I became overwhelmed by the bad memories of my past and began to see all of the things I wanted to get away from when I was a kid.
But my perspective has changed again and I’ve begun to feel the hope and see the potential in the environment and I know that I want to be apart of the positive change that is coming in the future.
