Lawyer to Writer

Lawyer to ArtistBefore I left for SPS I think my parents agreed that I would become a lawyer.  To my mom it seemed like the best profession for me because I loved to read and write.  And I was genuinely interested in the Law&Order version of the profession.

But in 8th grade I began to act in school plays and when I graduated Sister Mary (the director) gave me a card and in it she wrote that I was a “gifted actress”.  (I know some of my friends who have never seen me in a production are nodding their heads.)  But that stuck with me.  First it was acting, then directing, then back to my roots (writing).

I will never attend law school but my parents are beginning to come around to the term “Writer” (with a day job!).
