At first I resented having to play sports. It took up time that was in short supply and I was no natural athlete.
Then one day a teacher put a wooden tennis racket in my hand. I didn’t know enough about tennis to protest and ask for a sleeker model. So I learned what eye-hand coordination actually means and my parents bought me my own racket.
I played club tennis for multiple terms – singles and doubles. I made time to play with friends on weekends and picked up squash to work on my precision.
Once my love of tennis was born my desire to play was unwavering. It was time to think about joining a team.
