When I was a little girl I spent 1 month every summer in South Carolina with MA (my grandmother on my mother’s side, Juanita Barr). I loved my grandmother more than anything I did or owned and looked forward to a month of listening to crickets until I fell asleep, catching lightening bugs in my hands, and eating the best watermelon on the planet. I was never able to attend the Barr family reunion until this past weekend. The reunion began in 1942 and has continued every year for the past 71 years. MA is no longer with us but the Barr’s continue to thrive.
